# Length conversion chart Length conversions are a must for you. There is no denying from that.

We use these conversions everywhere from measuring the field to drawing a line. Thus, I am here to provide you the length conversion chart. It will seem to be pretty helpful.

You may know that there are many units of measurement of length. But to have uniformity in measurement Standard units are made.
The standard unit of length is “meter” denoted by “m”.

##### Following is the length conversion chart:
 1 centimeter (cm) = 10 millimeter(mm) 1 decimeter (dm) = 10 centimeter(cm) 1 meter (m) = =  10 decimeter (dm)= 100 centimeter(cm) = 1000 millimeter(mm) 1 decameter (dam) = = 10 meter(m)=100 decimeter(dm) 1 hectometer (hm) = 10 decameter = 100 meter 1 kilometer (km) = = 10 hectometer = 1000 meter

Other important conversions :

 1 inch = 2.54 cm 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = = 3 feet= 36 inches 1 mile = 1760 yards = 5280 feet = 1.609 km

The length conversion chart will be useful for conversion between units of length.
In day to day life, the meter, kilometer, and centimeter are mostly used.
Foot and inches are commonly used in height measurement. Yards units are used in the measurement of fields.

##### Now let us learn the method to convert from one unit to another.

Look at the following diagram We know the gap between two consecutive units is 10.
i.e 1 cm = 10 mm, 1 dm = 10 cm , 1 m = 10 dm and so on.
To convert bigger units into smaller units we will “multiply”. On the other hand, to convert smaller units into bigger units we will “divide”.

##### Let us solve some questions to understand it.
Question 1:  1 Kilometer is Equal to how many meters?
Solution: As Kilometer is greater than meter, we will multiply. Now if you look at the chart.
We have to go through three tens to reach the meter. That is, we have to multiply it by 10 × 10 ×10 ={ 10 }^{ 3 }
Thus 1 km = 1 ×{ 10 }^{ 3 } meter
1 km = 1000 m.

Question 2: Convert 12 hectometer into millimeter.
Solution: As hectometer(hm) is greater than millimeter(mm), we will multiply.
Now if you look at the chart. Thus to go from hectometer to millimeter we have to go through five tens. That is 10 ×10×10×10×10 ={ 10 }^{ 5 }
So,
12 hm = 12 × { 10 }^{ 5 }  millimeter
Question 3: Convert 20 decimeter into kilometer.
Solution: As decimeter is smaller than kilometer, we will divide. Now if you look at the chart.

From decimeter to kilometer, We have to go through four tens. Thus We have to divide it by 104.

so, 20 decimeter =20 ÷ 104 kilometer

= 0.002 kilometer

Question 4: Convert 100 cm into meter.
Solution: As centimeter is smaller than meter, we will divide. To go from centimeter to meter , we have to go through two tens . Thus we have to divide it by 102.

So,
100 cm = 100 ×  102 m

= 1 meter
